First order of business:
Multi-play vs. Multi-assist. There's a difference between these two things. Multi-play generally means you have two characters on one MUD, and they're both logged in at once. Now on most MUDs this is allowable. It can be difficult to do, however. Having two MUD windows open and playing two different characters.. (generally you shouldn't try to fight with both of them at the same time, that can be painful.. trust me, I speak from experience!).
Multi-assist is a little different. Generally this is in reference to having two characters on the MUD at the same time, and having one helping the other out. How's that for multiple personality problems? By "helping" I mean any of the following (and then some):
spelling up
gathering eq
gathering gold
softening a mob
helping a lower lvl char of your own fight a big mob for lots of experience
Now, I know there are MUDs out there which allow this. On the other hand, I also know there are MUDs out there which will ban you for doing this. Before doing anything like this on a new MUD, I would strongly suggest finding out how they'll take it. Every MUD is different.. thank gods, right?
Power-Levelling. Again, this is different everywhere. Generally Power Levelling is described as taking a newbie, grouping them, having them turn off autoassist, and running amok through high-lvl areas to get them lots of experience. Of course it can also be described as softening up higher level mobs for them, spelling them up often, or really doing anything to make their levelling go quicker than normal. Once again, this is allowable on some MUDs, and will get you kicked off of others. Make sure that you note a MUDs policy before doing it. This means if you're a LOWBIE on another MUD and someone offers to do it, find out the policy before accepting.
I've asked around on several MUDs for help on what to put here, and most of the time I got the answer "If you're an experienced MUDder, why would you need more information?". So if there's anything you can think of that you'd like to see here, PLEASE email me! Otherwise, this page has now turned into a glorified link page.
And so, without further ado..
Various links, not a damn thing to do with MUDs:
The No Movement Movement. This was a group founded by some friends of mine when I used to work at Packard Bell (yes, I know, I know.. I saw the light and the truth and left that job).
Seekhaven. A general goth page ran by a good friend of mine. If you're into that, it's got some great links!
And now for the general MUD stuff.
First things first, HUMOR! 101 spells not worth memorizing
QTelnet A MUD client written by an immortal on one of my home MUDs. I've never used it, though I've heard good things about it.
Zugg Software The zMUD page. It's a very nice little client. It does require a registration fee, however.
Pueblo Another free MUD client. It's basic, but it's functional.
Mirkwood MUD This is the homepage for Mirkwood MUD. One of my favorite home MUDs (and my first MUD ever!).
Telnet to Mirkwood Self explanatory, I hope.
Moo's.. page A random collection of MUD info and other silly things. This one is run by an old friend of mine. You will need the Shockwave plugin for it to load correctly.
Medley Blues Not really sure what all is here. Some useful info on building, different codebases, coding, etc. It was just a random person who was kind enough to link to my site! I thought I'd return the favor.
Darkoth's Website This is and has always been an incredible resource for coders, etc. Incredible snippets!
